Summary - Maliwatch Activities

1) Mali Symposium on Applied Sciences (MSAS 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2008)

MSAS is an international forum organized every two years with the following goals: 1) provide an open forum for scientists to discuss topics of special interest to Mali and Africa and present their research data; 2) encourage collaborative research between Africans and other scientists throughout the world; 3) provide a platform for students to present their research data and to enhance their learning skills.

Years 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006. In 2008 the symposium will be held on August 3-8.

•  How does the activity further our purposes?

This is an educational and scientific activity; therefore meets Maliwatch educational purpose of promoting a culture of science and technology for sustainable development in Mali.

•  What % of your total time is allocated to the activity ?

75-80%?

•  How is the activity funded? All grants money and Maliwatch members donations

MSAS'2000 budget: $2,300.00

MSAS'2004 budget: $19,580.00

MSAS'2006 budget: $20,780.00

MSAS' 2008 budget is projected to be near $15,000.00 or more

2) Video Project - An Invitation to Travel to Mali

Video was produced to raise the international community awareness about Mali (West Africa). The video depicts the country rich culture and democratic transformation and the needs for research and technology base transformation of its economy

3) Implementation of a computer lab at the Lycee Kankou Moussa High school , Bamako , Mali

Collect used and purchased of 10 computers for the High School

Achievement Awards (Best Student Prizes) for the top 1% High school students in Bamako , Mali
